Reportedly, for the first time ever, the Tennis tournament, The US Open will not have their no. 1 ranked female player. Serena Williams, 28 who is no. 1 in the world announced that she will not be participating in the 2010 US Open. It looks like Serena Williams will not be playing because she is still recovering from surgery on her right foot. According to earlier reports, Serena was hurt last month after supposedly stepping on a broken glass in a restaurant in Munich, soon after winning her fourth singles Wimbledon title.
Serena Williams’ withdrawal also means she can’t help her sister, Venus, defend the doubles title that they won last year. Missing the tournament is “one of the most devastating moments of my career,” says Serena; but, hopefully Serena can make a come-back!
