Teresa Scanlan recently became the youngest person to ever be crowned Miss America. At 17-years-old, the high school graduate is the youngest person to be crowned Miss America since 1921- in which Margaret Goreman was crowned at age 15. Teresa Scanlan won the approval of seven judges after an amazing performance of White Water Chopsticks on the piano. Scanlan, who is taking over the Miss America title from Caressa Cameron, plans to raise awareness about eating disorders saying they aren’t pushed to the front enough. In her Teresa Scanlan’s speech, she said “We simply can’t afford to let this issue go on because millions of girls and boys are out there dying from eating disorders. You can be this successful and you don’t have to hurt yourself, yo don’t have to go to extremes…I never passed up a cookie on my journey here”.
And it looks like being crowned Miss America is not the only exciting thing happening to Teresa Scanlan, she’s turning 18-years-old and is going away to Patrick Henry College where she plans to go to law school on her 50,000 scholarship and pursue a career as a politician. Congratulations to the lucky young woman!
