In the Air Tonight singer Phil Collins has been talking a lot about deciding to stop making music! Why you might ask…? The singer/songwriter and drummer says in addition to receiving negative criticism, his health has taken a toll on him. 60-year-old Phil Collins’ health problems include a dislocated vertebra, loss of hearing and nerve damage, making it difficult for him to even hold drum sticks.
It’s sad to see such a legend go but after years of rock and roll, the singer’s body is giving way. His years in the music business have been very successful, he has received 7 Grammys and had 13 hit singles as payment for all his hard work. In an interview with Time magazine, Phil Collins said “I don’t really belong to that world and I don’t think anyone’s going to miss me, I’m much happier to just write myself out of the script entirely”.
Whether it’s the negative criticism, or his health; Phil Collins apologizes for his success saying, “I’m sorry it was all so successful. I honestly didn’t mean it to happen like that. It’s hardly surprising that people grew to hate me”.
Now that Phil is out of the business, he can focus on being a better father to his daughter, Lily Collins who was rumored to be dating Twilight star Taylor Lautner.

Phil Collins

I love Phil Collins. I saw Phil Collins in concert when I was a teenager and it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to in m life! The guy is a musical genius.
I find it hard to believe one of the greatest figures being offended by negative criticism. On the other hand, I am sorry for the loss of hearing, something that Sting has also experienced.
The main reason Phil Collins is walking away from music for the time being, is so he can be a full time father to his two youngest sons. Phil’s book: The Alamo And Beyond: A Collector’s Journey is expected to be published in March 2012 and I’m looking forward to reading it.
