Tabloids want scandalous headlines, but this time Star magazine went too far when it ran a cover story on Katie Holmes which read, “Addiction Nightmare: Katie Drug Shocker”. In the mag, Katie Holmes is said to use an e-meter to participate in Scientology auditing sessions. According to the article, the e-meter can trigger the release of pain-killing, mood elevating hormones.
After reading the article, “Addiction Nightmare: Katie Drug Shocker”, a not too happy Katie Holmes filed a $50 million dollar lawsuit against Star for the defamation of character. Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise and camp believed the headline suggested to readers that she was addicted to drugs. And, as it turns out, it looks like Katie Holmes was probably right. Word is, Katie Holmes and Star magazine have agreed on a settlement, and the mag has even promised to make an impressive donation to charity in Katie’s name.
In the upcoming issue of Star scheduled to hit shelves on May 9th, the mag even apologizes to Katie saying, “In a recent issue of Star, we published headlines about katie Holmes that could be read to suggest that she was addicted to drugs. Star apologizes to Ms. Holmes for any misrepresentation and will be making a substantial donation to charity on Ms. Holmes’ behalf for any harm that we may have caused.”
Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have one child together, 5-year-old Suri Cruise. Suri just celebrated her birthday on Monday, April 18th.
Tom Cruise was previously married to Nicole Kidman.
