Last night, Thursday, May 26th, on America’s Best Dance Crew , we watched the top two crews make it to the season finale of the Season of the Superstars. Iconic Boyz locked a spot for the season finale, while Phunk Phenomenon and I aM mE had to fight for the final spot in the championship. On this episode of America’s Best Dance Crew all three crews had to take on the challenge of performing to smash hits by Kanye West. From Kanye West’s hip hop roots, to pop, to his new electro-style, Kanye West is constantly changing his music style. So this week the challenge was to embody his evolution by rocking a type of dance that relates to the musical genre. The three dance styles were the dougie, boogaloo, and isos.
Iconic Boyz, the youngest crew ever on ABDC, danced first. Although they knew they were already locked in for the season finale, they still went hard. ABDC Judge Lil’ Mama said, “There has been a lot of debate. People saying the Iconic Boyz, ‘Are you going for them because they’re cute and they’re young?’, I said no because they’re cute, they’re young, and they’re talented!”
Next, Phunk Phenomenon and I aM mE had to fight for their lives for a spot in the season finale, and a chance to win $100,000 and be titled “America’s Best Dance Crew”. Phunk Phenomenon went first in this battle. ABDC Judge JC Chasez said, “That was a fantastic performance you guys! We’re so close to the finish line and I feel like you guys just threw in some nitro into your tank! Everyone had a shining moment in this performance tonight, whether it was Chris in the front doing the isos, whether it was the stunt work between the rest of the guys, whether Cassandra being the “gold-digger girl” working her thing…! That performance had everything! And I have to say you guys put your hat in the ring and made a strong case for yourselves tonight!” Next it was I aM mE’s turn to try and win a spot for the championship. Judge D-Trix said, “I’m literally speechless! That’s how amazing it was. You know dance is all about taking something and making it yours, and every move that was on that floor tonight was I aM mE. The isolations, I was like, okay yeah you guys are going to kill that part, but you guys murdered that part! It couldn’t have been better! Just moment after moment! It’s the end and your supposed to be all out of tricks, I aM mE you guys are not all out of tricks! I can’t even talk about the moments because you guys brain-banged me. I don’t even know… just good job! Good job!”
After a great battle, I aM mE came out on top and are now in the top two along with Iconic Boyz. I aM mE and Iconic Boyz had to smash the stage one more time to lock in your votes at home to determine who will be crowned, “America’s Best Dance Crew”. The crews’ challenge was to have a completely original performance, music, wardrobe and everything! The Iconic Boyz went first, their concept being “Iconic Boyz in Hollywood”. Member of Iconic Boyz, Mikey Fusco, said “We want to make everyone in the crowd feel like they just watched superstars walk down the red carpet.” I aM mE’s concept centered on the elements that are a tribute to their own personal style of dance. I aM mE member, Phillip Chbeeb, said “You only get so many moments in your life, and if your not afraid to be yourself you can make your wildest dreams a reality.”
