Hello DIY Fashionista, I shared how to make a DIY cut up shirt and today my DIY fashion tip is how to make a couture dress out of a simple black t-shirt.
Step 1: Cut the neckline, bottom hemline, and sleeve hemlines off. Pull along the edge gently so the edge of the shirt curls slightly and doesn’t look rigid.
Step 2: Cut lines down the front and back of the shirt, but leave room to cut lines beside them. Pull the strips gently so that the sides curl slightly.
Step 3: Cut lines down the sides ;leave about half an inch of t-shirt between the side and center cuts. Pull the strips gently again for curled edges.
Step 4: The tricky part. It is now time to do the sleeves. Go out from the center cuts to about half an inch away from the edge of the sleeve, but only on the back of the shirt.
Step 5: About half an inch from the front cuts, cut to about half an inch to the edge of the sleeve. Do not connect these cuts with the front cuts.
Now wear the DIY couture dress over your favorite black mini-dress and you’re set for a night on the town!

This is awesome!!! It’s such a smart way to re-utilize an old, outdated black T-shirt! I love it! I think I might actually try to do this with several of my old shirts, hopefully it turns out well. Although, do you wear anything inside the dress? I’m worried that the cuts on the front will expose too much of the body.
