From someone working two jobs and going to school full time, I know exactly how stress can overwhelm you. I’m one to push my stress aside until it builds up, so I decided to start a new routine. About once a week, I give myself an evening only to myself, and do five things. This helps me manage my stress and relax after a long week of busy life. So here are the steps!
Step 1: Take a Hot Bath
I add lavender scented Epsom salts; the scent promotes relaxation, and Epsom salt helps relieve joint and bone pain, as well as softening the skin and moisturizing. If I have any fresh flowers, I add some petals, just for a spa feeling, and afterwards use a deep moisturizing cream for my skin, such as this one from Bath and Body Works with a great scent.
Step 2: Give Yourself a Mani-Pedi
Or, if you can afford it, go get a Mani-Pedi! I’m cheap, though, so I prefer to go buy myself a couple new shades every once in a while and paint my own fingers and toes. After this, I feel pampered and my cute toenails are a nice reminder through the week that I’ll have time for myself later on. The new Shatter shades from OPI are super cute!
Step 3: Bake Something Delicious
It doesn’t matter if you buy cookie dough from the refrigerated section at your local grocery, or if you make it home made! The smell of something sweet in the oven will comfort you and make you feel relaxed and more at home. Also, I eat the cookie dough raw.
Step 4: Write Yourself a Note
Write yourself something motivating, a favorite quote or joke, and stick it on your mirror! Every day when you begrudgingly wake up at 6 a.m. and see the little pick-me-up on your mirror in front of you, you’ll be all the more motivated to have a good day!
Step 5: Order Something Nice Online
No matter what my boyfriend tries to convince me, retail therapy DOES help, and ordering something nice online will give you something to look forward to in the mail! Something nice doesn’t necessarily mean expensive, and I only do this about once a month. Just put away a little money from your paycheck and order that scarf you’ve been wanting, or a new pair of nice pajamas. These pajamas from Victoria’s Secret are perfect!
