Living in co-ed dorms in college and being very involved in sports, I found it very easy to have build relationships with both guys and girls. In WB’s sitcom the Big Bang Theory focuses on four central male characters that are scientists, physicists, and biology graduate students and before Season 4 the show only featured one female character, Penny. Penny is a little bit more socially apt than the guys on the show.
The show hilariously contrasts these extremely smart scientists who are a bit socially awkward to the attractive, aspiring blonde actress, and more socially apt character Penny. Penny got a long just fine with the male characters on the show and developed deep standalone relationships. The Big Bang Theory originally aired on CBS on September 24, 2007 and in Season 4 Penny was finally joined by a couple of girlfriends, Amy and Bernadette.
Personally I think men and women can develop deep standalone relationships with men, but us girls still need our girlfriends and girl’s night out. There are some things that men will never under stand about “us” girls.
What do you think Fashionista? Can guys and girls have deep standalone friendships like Penny and the guys on the show? If so, do we still need girl time?
