The Florida man was caught and arrested by FBI, and charged with 26 counts of identity theft, unauthorized access to a protected computer and wiretapping. With such a long wrap sheet of charges you’d think that the man responsible would be behind bars..right?
According to the U.S District Attorney’s office, 35-year old Christopher Chaney was released on $10,000 bond after his court appearance yesterday. As stated by E! News, he was released under the following conditions:
“No new criminal activity, no possession of firearms, no use of controlled substances or excessive use of alcohol, pre-trial supervision and drug testing, treatment and evaluation, he must live with third party custodians, travel restricted to the Middle District of Florida and Central District of California and no access to any computer or other device with Internet access.”
Reportedly, the accused faces up to 121 years in prison if found guilty on all counts.
“It started as curiosity and it turned into just being addicted to behind the scenes of what was going on with these people you see on the big screen every day. I was almost relieved, months ago, when they came in and took the computer and told me what was going on. That they knew. Because I didn’t know how to stop,” Christopher Chaney tells CNN.
