Heavy D

Heavy D was the leader in the group “Heavy D and The Boyz” who signed with Uptown Records in the late 80s. The group gained the most fame for singing the theme song on the show “In Living Color”. Several hit singles topped the charts throughout the late 80s and 90s, including “Now that We Found Love”. Heavy D’s success would later lead to the position of President at Uptown Records. He was a true Hip Hop/ Rap icon.

He was the “overweight lover”. His confidence, charm, and flirtatious music made him popular among the ladies and with his guy fans too. Heavy D has struggled with obesity for years and, back in 2003, Heavy D lost over 135 pounds. At the time of his death, he was considerably slimmer. Heavy D was trying to overcome his health problems and was taking steps to living a healthier lifestyle. With his always sunny attitude, he was an inspiration to all…

Heavy D’s best accessory was his smile.

According to the Los Angeles County Coroners office, Heavy D collapsed outside his home in Beverly Hills and was rushed to the hospital. He was found conscious with problems breathing but was pronounced dead not long after at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Tuesday afternoon. The cause of death is not yet known but no foul play has been suspected. Heavy D had been taking medication for cough/flu like symptoms he was experiencing before his death.

Our hearts go out to the family, friends and fans of Heavy D. The Hip Hop/ Rap Icon will be missed.
