Last November, we watched Kim Kardashian as she attempted to add singing to her long resume as a TV personality, entrepreneur, model, and the star of her family’s reality TV show, “Keeping up with the Kardashians”. Besides the reality TV show and a few TV show appearances playing the role of herself, Kim Kardashian hasn’t really done very much acting. And, she’s made only two movies appearances (Deep in the Valley and Disaster Movie) over the course of her career.
But, this fall, Kim Kardashian is taking a real shot at acting; landing a role in Tyler Perry’s new movie “The Marriage Counselor”. This announcement has received a lot of backlash. Tyler Perry fans don’t believe Kim K is qualified for the role, and Perry is being accused of sacrificing integrity for money. Fans are even threatening to boycott the movie.
Tyler Perry explains why he chose Kim Kardashian to star in the upcoming movie,
“After I finished writing this movie. I sat back and re-read it. Halfway through my read, the gravity of what I had written hit me. I knew that this message was not only for my age group, but for all audiences, especially the youth…long before I even heard about Kim’s marriage or divorce, I was trying to finish up the casting. One of my producers showed me pictures that his daughter had taken of several hundred kids lined up around the corner to get into a Kim Kardashian store. They wanted to meet Kim. I thought what a better person. She literally has millions of young people following her,” Tyler Perry blogs.
Kim Kardashian will co-star as the co-worker of the Counselor. The movie is a comedic drama that revolves around a marriage counselor who breaks her own rules and ethics as she struggles with her own failing marriage. Filming began in Atlanta a month ago, on October 26th 2011.
In 2012, let’s see if Tyler Perry and Kim Kardashian proves the naysayers wrong. Does Kim K. have what it takes for the Big Screen?
