Frédéric Fekkai and Renato Campora CFDA/ Vogue Fund Runway Hair

CFDA/ Vogue Fund Runway Hair

The CFDA/Vogue Fund was established back in 2004 and has awarded over 2 million in startup money to emerging designers, as well as matched the recipient with a mentor. This year the final CFDA/Vogue Fund runway challenge was held at the luxurious Chateau Marmont in Hollywood on Thursday, October 20th.

Frédéric Fekkai partnered up with Renato Campora as the honorary stylists for the event. Fekkai says his team’s challenge was to create one universal look for the 10 CFDA/Vogue Fund finalists to compliment the collections. The look was a modern twist on a classic ponytail, now called the Sidelong. The Sidelong ponytail is contemporary and constructive, but suggests ease, effortless and elegance.

In the video below, go behind the scenes with Frédéric Fekkai.

Sidelong Ponytail styling tip: 1. Apply Fekkai Full Blown Volume™ Styling Whip throughout the hair until the entire head is damp. 2. Blow dry the hair using a large round brush. 3. Once the hair is mostly dry, straighten hair with a flat iron, separating into sections, while applying Frédéric Fekkai Essential Shea Tame and Style Pot de Crème to add shine. 4. Create a deep, exaggerated part to the right side of the head.

Congrats to Joseph Altuzarra, 2011 CFDA/Vogue Fund winner! The runners-up are Shane Gabier & Chris Peters of Creatures of the Wind and Pamela Love of Pamela Jewelry. The winner will receive $300,000 and the runners-up will get $100,000 each. Both the winner and the runners-up will meet with their assigned mentor on a monthly basis or as needed.
