On Friday, March 16th, New York designer Maria Cornejo made her very first public appearance in Denver to present the Zero + Maria Cornejo Spring/Summer 2012 Collection at the 26th Annual Max Fashion Show.
It was fashion for a great cause!
The show opened with an introduction from Owner Max Martinez, and commentary by a young woman named Piper. Piper is a 30-year-old law school graduate who is living with Cystic Fibrosis and was treated at Children’s Hospital Colorado for most of her life. Piper’s personal story spoke for more than 30,000 children and adults, and their families who are affected by the disease. The evening’s proceeds went to support the Mike McMorris Cystic Fibrosis Center at Children’s Hospital Colorado.
Like the designer, Zero + Maria Cornejo is fun, flirty and sophisticated. Max Clothing Stores is the exclusive retailer for the line in Colorado, so the night’s presentation was a dreamy racks to runway show. Neutrals, like beige and white, shared the runway and complimented on-trend, bright bold colors and jewel tones. We absolutely loved the canary yellows, corals and tangerines, which will highlight the sun-kissed skin tones of spring and summer. Geometric cuts and color blocking is also a theme for this designer. However, there was something more to this Spring/Summer 2012 runway presentation than just being in vogue —The prints had never been done before!
Maria Cornejo’s Spring/Summer 2012 prints were inspired and adapted from iPhone pictures taken during a recent trip to the Musée de l’Homme in Paris.
“All the prints were taken from the Museum of Mankind in Paris. The pictures were taken with my iPhone, so all the prints are very digital and broken up,” Cornejo tells First Class Fashonista in the interview below.
