Spring Cleaning for Summer Fashion: Closet Organization

Spring Cleaning Closet Organization Tips

Carrie Bradshaw Fashion

One of my favorite things about May is it’s the perfect time to go through my closet and clear out pieces that I no longer wear. There is a general rule that if you haven’t worn something within the last 9 months, there’s a very slim chance you will in the future.

Now I know there will always be an array of excuses going through your mind on how you could possibly save it. I have to say that I am guilty of most of these but, honestly, they’re just excuses; so go ahead and toss it (give it to a second hand store or your favorite charity)! The same rule applies to items that no longer fit. You should dress the body you have now, not the one you’re hoping to achieve.

Try organizing clothing into three groups: toss (garbage), donate, and keep. If it’s something that you think still has value or you’ve never worn, you can try selling it on websites like Ebay or Amazon. If it falls under the category of a trendier piece, donate it; styles usually only reemerge every two years so it’s better to be worn by someone else than become a permanent dust collector.

Clothing with holes/tears or stains should be thrown away, no one wants dirty or torn clothing! Since many of us are not blessed with a closet to envy like Carrie Bradshaw, consider storing out of season clothing. This way you will have a better view of what you actually have in your wardrobe. Another great tip to saving space is to try the space saver bag, and switch to no-slip slimline hangers.

You won’t regret investing in slimline hangers. I can not tell you how frustrating it can be when shirts fall off plastic hangers, or they become caught on one another. Slimline hangers offer a no-slip fabric that allows for maximum use of your closet space.
