Taking Style Notes: Back to School Fashion Must Haves

We’ve been taking notes on the fashion must-haves for back to school style! August marks back to school season, so what better way to kick off the school year than with some school-time staples (no pun intended). Although Summer’s temps will continue to linger through September, now is the time to invest in your Fall fashion pieces.

You wouldn’t expect florals to be a trending print for Fall 2012, but the widely popular style is bigger than ever. When choosing your floral pant always go for a straight or cropped trousers as the silhouette is more flattering. Pair your floral pants with a low cut ankle boot, in tan or black.

Boots are a great investment piece, that if cared for properly, can last you quite awhile. Selecting a neutral color will ensure that you get the most use out of your Fall / Winter boots. We love the Lulu suede ankle boots by Sam Edelman. The wooden stacked heel and upper buckle give the booties a little character.

If you’re like us and prefer to carry a tote instead of a backpack, a sturdy bag is a back to school must-have. Pick a bag that is large enough to accommodate your books and a computer. Don’t be afraid to go for a bold color or graphic print! We love the reptile Milo tote by MICHAEL Michael Kors. This bag even features several interior pockets, perfect for all your smaller accessories.

One of the most unexpected style comebacks this year is the denim jacket. Now, we’re not talking about the acid-washed jackets adorned with 80s hair-bows. Go for an original or vintage wash that hits you at the hips, like the MOTO Oversized Denim Jacket from TopShop. For a fashion-forward look, pair with a darker wash denim in a skinny to boot-cut fit!
