The 2013 haircut of the moment has been announced!!! Karlie Kloss has made the chin-length, chopped bob haircut a style that is sought after. The cut became notably famous after her four-page spread appearance in Vogue. Before modeling in Vogue, Kloss studied images of “sexy sixties” icons like Jane Birkin and Jean Shrimpton. Both icons wore similar unstructured bobs with bangs.
To define the Kloss’ cut, it’s just above the shoulder, uniform/one length bob, lightly layered with wispy/textured bangs. This new style is definitely a change compared to her seven inches of previously long, wavy hair.
20 year old, St. Louis native, Kloss; has quickly became a recognizable face, from her presence on the runway with Rodarte, Haider Ackermann and Lanvin. Designer Olivier Theyskens said, “Short hair brings something different to the silhouette, a freedom of movement and a shape to the shoulders.” He also said, “The girls looked stronger, less romantic, more in control of their choices and their attitudes.”
According to reports, Kloss was nervous and feeling a little reluctant to chop off all her hair, but her stylist Garren Defazio helped her gain a healthy hairstyle, along with setting a huge trend. Defazio said that the haircut is not the easiest cut and style to pull off, but with Kloss’s striking bone structure, the cut naturally compliments her. He explained that if one should get this cut, it is actually very low-maintenance. Kloss admits, “I haven’t had short hair since the second grade, ‘it was a bob with bangs.’” Kloss likes the cut, but she says Victoria’s Secret gives her lush extensions for their fashion show.
