Rewind 84 years to 1929. In Hollywood a luncheon of 270 celebrities was held at Hotel Roosevelt to award 15 golden statues for achievements in film. Actors, directors, writers, producers, musicians and everyone in between has been gracing the red carpet every year since to form the Academy Awards; or as it’s known today, The Oscars. I love film and I have a great appreciation for the art and all the work that it takes to entertain, but lets be honest here…I truly look forward to the fashion. Awards shows provide celebrities a chance to make statements and show their creativity in another light, and allow hundreds of designers to model all of their hard work and, sometimes, one of a kind pieces.
This year I was going to write a post about my predictions for this year’s red carpet, but it hit me…Why not study all of the best dresses that have walked the carpet from the beginning? And this, fellow fashionistas, is a compilation of 25 of my all time favorite Oscar Red Carpet moments, beginning in 1934.

(From left to right and top to bottom)
1934- Katherine Hepburn
1954- Audrey Hepburn in Givenchy
1954- Marilyn Monroe
1955- Grace Kelly in Edith Head
1962- Elizabeth Taylor in Valentino
1975- Anjelica Huston
1975- Lauren Hutton
1976- Diane Keaton…I’m pretty sure we can credit this fabulous woman for starting the Feminine Pantsuit.
1977- Farrah Fawcett in Stephen Burrow…Gold Lame never looked so good.
1980- Lauren Hutton…I take back my previous comment.
1988- Daryl Hannah…flawless 50′s glamour.
1994- Elizabeth Hurley in Versace…Daring, but oh-so-glad she went there.
1996- Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein
2000- Cate Blanchett in Jean-Paul Gaultier…Hello…? How can she seriously be so bare and classy at the same time? This woman is a goddess.
2006- Keira Knightley in Vera Wang
2006- Michelle Williams in Vera Wang
2008- Marion Cotillard in Jean-Paul Gaultier…So similar to a 1975 Anjelica Huston, and I LOVE IT.
2009- Jessica Biel in Prada
2009- Sarah Jessica Parker in Dior Haute Couture
2010- Sandra Bullock in Marchesa
2011- Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Couture
2011- Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein
2011- Mila Kunis in Elie Saab
2012- Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford…best dressed of all time nominee.
2012- Rooney Mara in Givenchy
Who knew Gwyneth Paltrow has rocked so many fabulous red carpet looks, and Cate Blanchett…another show stopper. My five favorite looks of all time would have to be, Audrey in 1954, Lauren Hutton in 1980, Marion Cotillard in 2008, Cate Blanchett in 2011 and, of course, Gwyneth in 2012. Can’t wait to see who makes it on my list this year!
Until next time,
Chelsey

I think that Naomi Watts absolutely killed it with her dress. Perfection. Not getting what wasn’t to love about it. I liked, Zoe Saldana and Nicole Kidman’s dresses but in my opinion it was definitely Naomi. I also loved how Kristin Stewart was a hot mess, and Jennifer Lawrence looked great even falling over.
