While watching Louis Vuitton’s Fall /Winter 2013-14 show, I was slightly taken aback by the dark palette and heaviness of the clothing which were vastly different from the energetic pieces of his Spring 2013 Collection. However, I soon adjusted my mindset for the winter season and immersed myself in yet another compelling show.
One key element was the atmosphere. Models emerged from the various doors that lined a mysterious corridor resembling that of an old, elegant apartment building. The runway encircled guests, providing them with a single perspective of each “resident” as they left the confines of their rooms to take on the day, clad in Louis Vuitton’s latest looks. There were a few breaks in the show during which the models would suddenly exit the runway through the nearest door in unison. A moment later new models would enter, continuing the fluid procession. The choreography was impeccably executed and made for an captivating performance of sorts.
As for the clothes, Louis Vuitton delivered another highly sophisticated line, though much different from his previous vibrant, checkered-covered Spring Collection. The looks included a series of loose fitting separates, sleek slips, classic coats, and body hugging gowns with plunging necklines. Many looks were complimented by these fun, furry handbags, while others were pulled together with more simple clutches. I’d have to say my favorite looks were among Vuitton’s marvelous array of coats which were paired with thin, lacy gowns that added a touch of sexy. From straight silhouettes to cinched wastes, feathers to fur, the man covered all ends of the coat spectrum and created a longing within me that made me forget my dread of the cold for a whole two seconds.
Enjoy the show!
