Friday, March 7th 2014 at 6pm was the day fashion designers, students and fashion enthusiasts anticipated had arrived. Held at the fabulous Seawell Grand Ballroom, at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, paper made a whole new statement that night.
Being the 10th year of the annual ADCD Paper Fashion Show, people were looking pristine and very excited. There was a line to the entrance a half mile long! Being the largest paper fashion show in the nation, many sponsors and vendors were there that night to let consumers and enthusiasts get a taste of what they have to offer.
Such venders at this wonderful event include; Xpedx, Mohawk Fine Papers, Fashion Denver, American Crew, FIDM, The Firehaus hair salon, Art Directors Club of Denver, Content Public Relations, Voltage Advertising and Design, D & K Printing, and nxt|MODEL…just to name a few.
Your very own FCF had the chance to speak to the very intellectual Jim Huggins, a digital specialist for Mohawk Fine Papers. He introduced me to the variety of fine papers Mohawk supplies. I was so impressed to see the amount of work and thought that is put into this company and their products. You can find out more about Mohawk Fine Papers at www.mohawkpaper.com.
As I grabbed my cocktail and headed up stairs to the main stage, I was in awe to see the creative displays of cut-out fashion illustrations surrounding the runway.
Running into some of my fashion industry colleagues, I was introduced to the judges of the show. The first judge of the night was the super bubbly and inspiring Brandi Shigley, the Founder of Fashion Denver. Sitting next to her was the very professional and fashionable Justice Kwesi Kwarteng, the Founder of Justice Talent Agency Group. Completing the line of judges was Craig Hanson, the Creative Director for American Crew, Amanda Brady, Designer and Illustrator for Geneologie, and Shanna Mcnear, the Art Director of The Integer Group. Seeing the credentials sitting upon the judge’s panel, I knew all the decisions made that night would be made by overly qualified professionals.
The Judging Categories of the night include:
Star Student: Design from a student team that the judges feel best encompasses the judging criteria.
DAVA Favorite: Design chosen by student representatives from DAVA.
Just For Giggles: This award will go to the design with the best sense of humor.
Over-The-Top Accessory: Design with the best paper accessory.
That’s Made of Paper?!: This award will go to the team that BLOWS the judges away, through the transformation of paper.
Once the clock hit 7:30pm, guests were introduced to the MCs of the night, Jeff and Paul; two of the funniest MCs I’ve ever encountered. First to walk that fabulous stage was Pissed Off & Red Hot by Felt.

As a past participant of the 7th Annual Paper Fashion Show, I have to admit I WAS BLOWN AWAY!!! This event showcases some of the most creative fashion designs ever made. It was hard to believe some of the designs were made of paper. Every designer in this event should feel so proud of their creative works. I want to not only congratulate the winners of the 10th Annual Paper Fashion Show, but everyone who submitted their one-of-a-kind fashion designs.
