If you haven’t noticed the trending section on any of your social media accounts, look now! The #MetGala is all over the radar…and if you don’t know what it’s all about, let me fill you in.
The Met Gala is short for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala. It is one of the most high profile annual fundraisers with the hottest actors, singers and models on the guest list. The event kicks off the opening of the institute’s annual exhibit with a cocktail hour and formal dinner. This year tickets were sold for $25,000 per person; all proceeds contribute to the museums exhibits, acquisitions and capital improvements. This year’s event was chaired by Aerin Lauder, and co-chaired by the likes of Anna Wintour (who previously chaired the event since 1995), Sarah Jessica Parker, Bradley Cooper (woah! Who would have thought!?), Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch, and Oscar de la Renta.
This year’s event was in celebration of the year’s exhibit – featuring designer Charles James. At the ripe age of nineteen, James got his start as a hat designer and, now, he is most famously known for his intricate gowns that accentuate the woman’s body. If you’re in the New York area, stop by the Metropolitan Museum of Art between May 8th and August 19th to check out 75 of James’ timeless pieces at the Charles James: Beyond Fashion exhibit.
Now for the fun part, the Met Gala red carpet is all about high fashion and over the top intricate designs, would you expect anything less when Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour sets the dress code? Below are my personal favorite looks from this year’s Met Gala held on May 5, 2014.
Taylor Swift in Oscar de la Renta
Blake Lively in Gucci Première
Beyoncé in Givenchy Couture and Philip Treacy Veil
Suki Waterhouse in Burberry
