I was invited to try Mammma Chia one week, and the very next week my daughter was telling me about it when I was helping her get settled in for another year of college in NYC. The day before I was to return home, I wanted to take her grocery shopping to fill her kitchen will healthy food. I met Annie in the morning at Trader Joe’s in Union Square and she happened to have a Mamma Chia Vitality drink in her hand! She asked, “Do you know about Mamma Chia?” Inquisitively I said, “No, I don’t.” Then I told her about my upcoming project, so she was super excited to tell me all about it. While shopping, I heard about the health benefits and how Mamma Chia was the first vitality drink of its kind. “Chia is an ancient food of the Aztecs and Mayans that gives you energy. It comes from the Salvia Hispanica plant, and has Omega- 3s, calcium, fiber and protein. People put the seeds on their cereal, in yogurt, or even on their salads. The word Chia means strength,” she explained with so much enthusiasm. She said she introduced her older sister, who now drinks Mamma Chia for a boost in energy before going to the gym.
Well, I couldn’t wait to try it. When I got back home, I bought a Mammma Chia from King Soopers and called up my daughter to brag. A few weeks later, I got a box of Mamma Chia Squeeze Vitality Snacks in the mail. They come in a convenient pouch with a replaceable twist-off cap, which is easy to toss in a gym bag or purse when you’re on the go. Mamma Chia has actually become my personal gym bag must-have. Just yesterday I made it to the top of the Chautauqua Trailhead Flatiron #1, peak 7,132 ft, in Boulder, Colorado! Guess what was in my hiking backpack? – A Chia Squeeze Vitality Snack, of course. It was definitely the pick-me-up I needed for the hike back down the mountain. So, I always ask myself: Would I recommend this product to my family, friends and First Class Fashionista readers? The answer is YES. Mamma Chia will also accompany me on my 36 mile Labor Day bike ride tomorrow. I absolutely need chia in my life! I plan to add the little black seed to everything I can.
Mamma Chia’s Beginnings and the Founder:
It started on a small organic farm in rural San Diego, where Mamma Chia founder and CEO, Janie Hoffman, in her quest to find an ideal diet for her own health, fell in love with the magic of chia. Janie had suffered for 20 years from a variety of debilitating auto-immune disorders, which left her so challenged that she often could not leave the house. After years of trying numerous diets and medical treatments, Janie was introduced to the nutritional powerhouse known as the chia seed. Since incorporating chia into her daily diet, Janie has been in complete remission. Janie became so enchanted with these little seeds that she was literally adding them to everything in her kitchen and giving away chia treats to everyone she knew or crossed-paths with, but it was her chia beverages that became the biggest hit with her friends and family. In the summer of 2009, fueled by her passion for chia and her commitment to be of service to humanity and the planet, Janie founded Mamma Chia.
