Back in mid-December 2014, your very own FCF had the amazing opportunity to attend the Season 11: So You Think You Can Dance tour performance in Broomfield, CO. You can read my review of the show and watch the videos here. Unfortunately, after the show, I wasn’t able to interview the top finalists but later, thru my PR connection, I was able to get some of my questions answered by non-other than the SYTYCD winner Ricky Ubeda and Valerie Rockey!
Ricky Ubeda and Valerie Rockey answered all of my questions, take a look at what they said!
Since Ricky went directly on to the show right after graduating high school, his life has changed dramatically. He says everything is different, but in a great way. He gets to do what he loves every day with the people he loves, Ricky admits it’s the greatest thing ever. If Ricky was not a dancers he would either become a writer, a photographer or he would be making music. Either way, Ricky loves to be creative and would always be involved in an artistic realm. When I asked Ricky if he had an outstanding favorite week/moment throughout the entire experience, he answered, “I did try to take it in as a whole, but I would say the first time I was on the stage will always be a moment that pops out at me.” His favorite dance this season was his first duet with Jessica, “The Vow.” This dance was choreographed by Sonya. I have to admit, this was one of my favorite performances on the SYTYCD tour.
And last, but not least, I asked Ricky if he could do a duet with any celebrity, who would it be. His answer was simple–Beyoncé!
MY Interview with Ricky Ubeda.
1. How has your life changed since SYTYCD?
Well after I graduated high school I went directly on to the show so I would say everything is different! But I get to do what I love everyday with people and I love and it is the greatest thing ever.
2. If you could inspire the world through your dance, what dance would it be and what would you like the world to learn from it?
If I could inspire the world it would be through my dance.
3. If dance wasn’t in your life, what would you be doing?
If dance wasn’t in my life for whatever odd reason that may be, I’ve always said that I’d be a)writing b)being a photographer or c) making music. So yeah, staying creating would be safe to say.
4. Did you have any outstanding favorite week/moments throughout the entire experience, or did you try to take it in as a whole?
I did try to take it in as a whole but I would say the first time I was on the stage will always be a moment that pops out at me.
5. Favorite dance you did this season?
My favorite dance that I did this season is my first duet with Jessica choreographed by Sonya.
6. If you could do a duet with any celebrity, who would it be and why?
Valerie says, “I feel like my life has changed a lot. I really believe I’ve grown so much as a dancer and a person.” She told us she would want to inspire with any tap dance because it’s such a unique style and she feels like getting it more exposed is so important, including sharing the way to create rhythms is how Valerie wants to inspire others.
When I asked if dance wasn’t in your life, what would you be doing?
I’m not positive what I would be doing if I wasn’t dancing, but what I would guess is going to Indiana university for something dental related.
Did you have any outstanding favorite week/moments throughout the entire experience, or did you try to take it in as a whole?
It was all special but the first week was unforgettable. I also won’t forget the feeling I had when all 7 girls danced together. The week I feel like I finally stopped hiding in my shell was when I danced with twitch.
Favorite dance you did this season?
My favorite dances were the tap with Zack to “Sing” and my hip hop with twitch to “yeah”
If you could do a duet with any celebrity, who would it be and why?
Let’s go with Justin timberlake because he is cool.
I hope you enjoyed our SYTYCD interviews! Feel free to tell us what you think. As always, thanks for reading. We appreciate you.
