With the advent of social media websites and apps, online dating is becoming more and more popular. The stigma of being socially inept no longer exists. According to eHarmony, one-third of marriages today started online.
My husband is my high school sweetheart. He was the new boy in my neighborhood who liked me. He had to work up the courage to try to talk to me. He couldn’t do it, so he asked my sister to tell me hi. This was before every home had a computer, before the digital age. Teenagers today are dating virtually. We have all seen the TV show “Catfish”. You can have a boyfriend or girlfriend on Facebook and never meet him or her for years. Yes, the dating game has changed. It’s a smaller world because of the internet. We are connected. You can meet people who live outside of your neighborhood, in another state or country; just swipe or click. The scary part is you can be whoever you want to be online.
